Welcome to Epsom Garden Society

We are a group of people who love gardening and want to share our passion with others. We offer a variety of activities and events for all levels of gardeners, from beginners to experts.

We passionately believe that gardening is a great way to relax, connect with nature, learn new skills, and meet new people. We hope you'll enjoy being part of our group. Whether you are looking for advice on how to start your own garden, want to learn more about gardening techniques, or swap tips, we have something for you.

Of course, we also love flowers. Some of us grow flowers, others buy flowers and visit gardens and many of us enjoy arranging flowers with their talents and interests wide-ranging from simple posies to church flowers and competition work.

We have an annual show, don’t be intimidated by the more formal classes and why not have a go at one of our more informal ones. Don’t think “I am not good enough to enter a show” – we all felt like that once and learned that actually we are good enough.

Here are some of the benefits of joining a garden society:

  • Learn from experienced gardeners
  • Get advice and support
  • Meet new people who share your interests
  • Get involved in community projects
  • Have fun!

Show - this year our annual show is on 14th June
Shows provide the opportunity for those with a wide range of talents to demonstrate their skills with classes covering flowers, fruit, vegetables, cookery, floral arrangement, photography and handicrafts. If you have never exhibited before then there are novice classes plus a range of children’s classes. There is a small fee of 20p per entry, children’s classes are free. Shows are held at St. Martin’s Junior School, Ashley Road, Epsom, KT18 7AD. Opening to the public from 2.00 - 4.30pm, entry is £1 for members, £2 for non-members. In addition there are plants for sale, refreshments and a raffle. For more details contact Cathy Flitter.

Monthly Meetings with Guest Speaker
Most meetings will be in the mornings  at Epsom Sports Club on the third Wednesday of the month, sometimes with flower displays. Topics range over the whole field of gardening, including design, cultivation, conservation and wild life. Speakers are acknowledged experts in their fields and talks are usually illustrated with slides. There is a small entry fee of £2 (£3 for non-members) for which you also get refreshments and entry to a raffle (see events calendar for full details of this year’s programme). The November meeting is our AGM and the December meeting will be a social event.

The Outings & Open Gardens Group
If you enjoy visiting gardens and would like the opportunity to gain advice and ideas in a relaxed informal atmosphere then this is the group for you. Each year a small number of members open their gardens for viewing, providing an excellent opportunity to see what grows well in a variety of soils and situations. Members also exchange plants and seeds.
During the year visits are organised to other gardens of interest. Full details of all outings/visits and booking arrangements are published in the newsletter. For more details contact Sue Glover.

Society Newsletter
The Society publishes 10 newsletters a year. Each contains short articles on topical gardening matters plus details of all shows, Society meetings, plant sales and local gardening events. If you have any news or small ads that you would like to be included in the newsletter contact  Margaret Haslam.
